The Maypole MP9522 swaps metal poles for an inflatable frame. You pump it up through one valve, peg it out and it is ready. It suits hot tub owners who put a shelter up and take it down often, or who find steel pop-ups heavy and awkward. Its strongest point on paper is the fabric, which carries a 2,000 mm hydrostatic head, the highest water rating stated in our gazebo guide.

In its favour

  • 220 cm height is modest, and the air frame needs topping up to its 7 PSI rating.

Our take

How an air frame works

All the beams fill from a single inflation point, and the listing says the frame holds up to 7 PSI. Two deflation valves let the air out quickly when you pack away. Tensioning straps pull the shape square once it is up.

The obvious trade-off with any air structure is pressure. Inflatable tubs teach owners that air beams soften in the cold and firm up in the sun, so expect to check and top up the frame now and then. The listing does not say whether a pump is included.

Size and fabric

The footprint is 365 by 365 cm and the height is 220 cm. That leaves around 80 cm on each side of a 206 cm tub, which is enough space for steps and for getting in and out comfortably. The 220 cm height is lower than the Lay-Z-Spa Gazebo Dome but still clears most adults in the middle.

The polyester fabric is rated at 2,000 mm hydrostatic head and UPF 50+. Four guylines and pegs come with it. At 9.82 kg it is one of the lighter shelters here, which helps when you move it, though light shelters need good anchoring in wind.

What it does not include

No side walls are listed. Maypole sells it as a campsite, park and garden shelter, so you get a roof and an open frame. That keeps the rain off, but it will not cut the wind that cools a tub in winter.

A 12 month manufacturer warranty is listed. There is nothing in the listing about leaving it up for long periods.

Compared with the Coleman and the Lay-Z-Spa dome

The Coleman Event Shelter Pro M is a steel 3 by 3 m shelter with a 1,000 mm rating and no sides, so the Maypole gives more room and a better water figure. The Lay-Z-Spa Gazebo Dome is bigger and has four doors, which makes it the better winter shelter. The Maypole is the quickest of the three to put up and take down.

Verdict

Pick the Maypole inflatable gazebo if you want a roof over the tub that goes up in minutes with no poles and has the highest stated water rating in this group. If you need walls against the wind, the Lay-Z-Spa Gazebo Dome or the PORTAL 3 x 3 m pop-up are better choices. For a fixed setup, look at the Gecheer 4 x 3 m instead.
